appearance

Freyja is a half Elezen half Hyur with porcelain skin, ashen tresses, silver eyes, and pointed ears, the latter being the only obvious sign of her Elezen heritage.

personality

Calm, composed, and taciturn, Freyja’s stoicism is often misinterpreted for aloofness or indifference. That is not to say however, that she is unpleasant. Despite her difficult childhood, she is more pragmatic and open than one might expect, always ready to offer words of encouragement or a smile to those in need.

early life

Born in the the alpines of western highlands of Coerthas, Freyja was raised by her Hyur mother, Alfhild, in the bustling village of Hemlock. While she never knew her father, her pointed ears implied an Elezen origin. Her mother was a botanist by day and Astrologian by night. At times she would travel to Dragonhead to the First Dicasterial Observatorium of Aetherial and Astrological Phenomena to research and theorize methods to read the stars to predict the movements of the Dravanian horde for the safety of Ishgard. While Freyja was never allowed near the Observatorium, her mother made sure to teach her the art of astromancy.Freyja lived a relatively simple life. Helping her mother in the garden or hunting small game for the dinner table.

post-calamity

The events of the Calamity cast Coerthas into an eternal winter. Fertile lands that once teemed with life were now frozen over and devoid of life. No longer able to grow produce, and faced with a new scarcity of wildlife, Freyja and her mother sought to flee south to Gridania.Enroute, they sought shelter at the Observatorium in Dragonhead. Forlemort, the chief Astrologian, however, turned them out. It was in this exchange that Freyja thus learned that he despised Alfhild for sharing teachings from the Sharlayan school of astromancy, and therefore had no desire to shelter them. To add insult to injury, the Elezen and Hyur of the camp would turn away at the sight of her, disgusted and muttering the words, “Mongrel.”Turned out with nowhere to go, the duo had no choice but to continue south. A kind Durendaire guard had warned them against Mor Dhona, as word had spread that the land there had changed drastically, now a wasteland of corrupted aether. The sole remaining option was the Twelveswood. As they followed the river south, the duo was ambushed by a pack of starving snow wolves. The pair struggled to fight them off, but the numbers were too great, and they were weakened from their travel. Though Wood Wailers from Florentel’s Spire came to their rescue, it was too late for Alfhild. The dangers of the trip cost her mother's life, leaving Freyja alone to fend for herself in a new land. Alfhild was buried in an unmarked grave overlooking Alden Springs, and Freyja continued further through the woodlands.Upon reaching Gridania, Freyja quickly enlisted in the Order of the Twin Adder, where for the next five years, she honed her martial prowess, determined not to suffer as she had in Coerthas again.

hooks

  • Written in the Stars. Seeking to have your fortune read? A trained astrologian from birth, Freyja is adept at divining fates and fortunes from the celestial heavens.

  • Outlander. Were you in Coerthas before/during the Calamity? Did you lead a life of survival and self-sufficiency? Before the Calamity, Freyja lived a harsh life in the frozen wilds, and finds a kindred spirit in those who had similar experiences.

  • Heroes Never Die. Freyja is a healer above all. If you were heavily involved with MSQ plotline, you might have been treated by her at some point.

  • Old World Isolationism. Do you serve the Sharlayan Forum? If so, word of an individual sharing Sharlayan Astrology might not sit well with you.

  • Green Thumb. If you've frequented the White Lotus Inn, you might have seen Freyja caring for the indoor plants and gardens.

  • Mixed Blood. You might have heard someone call Freyja a mongrel, or noticed the pointed ears.

  • Missing in Action. "A male elezen" might not be a lot to go by, but it's all Freyja has to go off of in seeking her missing father.
